Big River Barn specializes in riding on trail. You don't need to have experience. We take riders of any skill level, from beginners to advanced. Our horses are superbly trained, patient with beginners, and eager for fun with experienced riders.
We ride year-'round in the spectacularly beautiful Muttontown Preserve, in central Nassau County, Long Island. We are just off exit 41 of the Long Island Expressway, or one hour out by train from Penn Station on the Long Island Railroad. We ride on over 500 acres of lightly used preserved open space: forest, fields, meadows.
All of our horses are rescues. They come from a variety of situations; many are from the racetrack. We commit to their long-term care, help them recover from injury, rehabilitate them for a new life, and give them jobs so that they can support themselves, namely by going out on trail rides.
